What Is A Clutch?
Under the hood, your engine is always spinning as long as your vehicle is on. However, your car's wheels need to have the ability to stop and go. In cars with manual transmissions, the clutch allows the driver to stop the wheels without turning off the engine. Automatic clutches perform this action without the need for the driver to manually engage the clutch.
STIFF CLUTCHIf you find that you have to apply more force than usual on your clutch, it may require a simple adjustment.
If the cylinders are leading, they are unable to create the pressure needed for the system to work properly.
A misalignment will cause your pedal to transmit the wrong amount of force when you press your foot down on it.
Tension from the cable is required to make the clutch work properly. Occasionally, the cable might break and need to be replaced.
AIR FOUND IN THE HYDRAULIC LINE
If air finds its way into the hydraulic line, fluid is unable to pass through normally which will throw off the pressure of the system
Clutch Care and Maintenance
The truth of the matter is, your clutch is constantly being exposed to friction so it will inevitably wear out at some point. However, there is a way that you can extend the life of your clutch and avoid the need for a premature replacement. Clutch repair can be pricey at times, so it’s in your best interest to take care to maintain your clutch as long as possible.
Avoid changing gears to rapidly, and don’t lean on the clutch once you’ve switched gears. If you press down on your clutch longer than necessary it puts unnecessary stress on it. You also want to avoid changing gears more than you have to.
It’s helpful to utilize your hand break when your car is parked. Leaving your car in gear while parked will also put undue strain on your clutch.
