It doesn’t matter what vehicle you drive or how much money it costs, if your transmission is experiencing issues, you are in for serious car trouble. That’s why you should invest a little bit of time and money into car transmission service and repair. Transmissions are intricately designed and can be complicated in terms of repairs, which is why preventative maintenance and care are so crucial. There are several things that you can do to prolong the life of your transmission and help you avoid any serious issues. Keep reading on below to learn some of these tips. It just might save you money!

    1. Flush Your Transmission Regularly

Flushing your transmission means that you are changing the transmission fluid within. It’s a great idea to get your transmission fluid flushed once every year so that you can be sure it’s working great. There are several factors that influence how long your transmission fluid lasts. The make and model of your car and the amount that you drive it certainly are factors. The bottom line is, flushing your transmission regularly can help to extend the lifespan of your transmission over the long term and should be a part of everyone’s transmission care plan.

    2. Change the Transmission Filter

Some automatic car transmissions are built with a filter that wears down over time. This is more common on older cars, but it’s definitely worth checking to see if your transmission does indeed have one. It helps to have a professional transmission company like Remac Transmissions available to take a look and change out your transmission filter, if necessary.

    3. Don’t Tow Things with Your Car

Sometimes, you need to give someone a tow or bring heavy loads along for the ride. This is ok if you have a larger truck that is built to haul heavy loads, but you should understand that towing puts a lot of pressure on your car’s transmission. The workload is even more if you are towing in hot weather. If you can avoid towing things with your car, you will be putting much less wear and tear on it.

    4. Check Transmission Fluid Often

Lots of cars these days provide a very convenient way to check your transmission fluid. This is great news for those who aren’t very mechanically-savvy because simply by checking your transmission fluid you can avoid many of the normal transmission-related problems. To check it, make sure the engine is idling and pull the dipstick out. Next, wipe the dipstick off and put it back in place. Finally, pull it out one more time to get a good reading. If it is murky colored and smells like rotten fish, take your car to a specialist so they can take a look. Normal transmission fluid is bright red and smells sweet.

    5. Avoid Changing Gears While the Car is Moving

It’s always a great idea to stop your vehicle completely before you attempt to change gears. If you don’t, you are putting lots of extra strain on your transmission. This can cause it to wear down over time if you aren’t careful.
